here’s a montage from our live set at the bridge pai, wednesday august 12th. thanks to david eklund for this video! we ended up playing an hour instead of our original allotted 20 minutes since the other bands ran late. those unexpected moments are always some of the most magical. this was also the first time we played the bridge pai, and i think it went quite well.

other highlights from the evening included a completely improv qawwali with arcadia, myself, and basim & imran from the kominas. hopefully some video from that will surface soon as well!

i thought you all might enjoy watching this video clip from the kirtan i and the basement bhaktis did at the tea bazaar on may the 11th. the video isn’t perfect; it’s a little bit dark, and it skips in a few places. despite these caveats, it’s certainly not hard to watch, and the most important thing, the feeling(!!!) is pretty easy to absorb.

the lineup for that night was:

me: harmonium and lead vocals

arcadia williams: shruti box and vocals

patrick allen: keyboard and vocals

tom lynch:  accordian and vocals

mike johnson: drums

(first time basement bhakti) glenn reuther: djembe, doumbek, and shaker

as you can see, the room was really rocking for this chant! a few more videos were taken by glenn’s wife that will likely surface sometime in the future.
